Door Replacement Dupage County

Is it time to say “out with the old, in with the new” to your old door?

It can be hard to say goodbye when you’ve had the same door for some time. Maybe you’re holding on for sentimental reasons, or you’re intimidated by the idea of door replacement. Eventually, however, you’ll have to look at the signs and face the facts that it’s time for a new door. And it might not be as intimidating as you think. With the right replacement door installers, the process of your door replacement can be efficient and as comfortable as possible.

But what are these signs? What is your old door telling you that should be an indication it needs to be replaced? Here are a few of the more common ones.

Draft

The easiest sign to notice is a draft. There’s no reason that there should be cold air seeping into your entryway with a fully functional door. Your door should provide sturdy insulation to keep your home warm and dry, no matter what it feels like outside. It’s because of drafts that people often realize their door might be in need of replacement in the middle of winter. As the temperatures drop outside, flaws in your door’s insulation become painfully obvious. It may also be the season that pests like bugs sneak under the door and into your home to escape the cold. There’s no putting it off any longer. You need a door replacement.

Swelling

Sometimes with wooden doors, bad storms can cause them to swell, which can impair their functionality. At best, it might cause cracks in the door’s structure as it swells and then eventually contracts. In the worst cases, the door might become too swollen to open or to subsequently close. Swelling is a huge problem for your old door, and not one that can easily be repaired. If it’s been swollen or warped too badly, you’ll have to replace it–potentially with a door made of water-resistant material like steel or fiberglass.

Noisy Hinges

Does your door creak every time you open or close it? This may mean that your hinges are rusted or loose. Rusted hinges can be oiled and loose hinges can be tightened, so in itself, a problem with the hinges is not necessarily a sign that you’re in need of a door replacement. But the older the door gets, the more frequently the hinges will need repair. Faulty hinges are often also a symptom of something bigger–like a door that’s on its last legs…or, well, hinges.
